Minutes from class 9/18/12
The mission for this class period was to talk about all of the mission statements that we each wrote and put on the blog and agree upon the most important themes among all of them and create a mission statement for the class that everyone could agree on.
We started class by reading each of the mission statements and underlined the most important ideas in the statements. Most of us took a similar approach, but Yuki took a more quantitative approach and tallied up the most and least common ideas in each. Critique was one idea that was present in all of the statements.
Most of the conversations went smoothly with most everyone agreeing upon the aspects that we wanted to include. One topic that not everyone agreed on was whether or not everyone should have a responsibility to portray their community the way that the community would like to be portrayed. We decided instead of putting it in the mission statement, we would engage in an ongoing discussion about each of our responsibilities to our communities.
We ended up coming up with a tentative mission statement for our class as a community, but unfortunately did not have time to discuss the Walter Benjamin article that we read.
